——JLUAT workshop on cultural inheritance and innovation of "Northeastern-style floral print cotton fabric" appeared in the Chinese College Students Art Works Exhibition(CCSAWE)

Beautiful colors, attractive costumes, exquisite handicrafts... At the CCSAWE booth, the "northeastern floral print cotton fabric" full of northeastern folk culture characteristics attracted the comers so much that numerous people are attracted to view.

Liu Bing, the leader of the workshop student team, told the visitors that the workshop on cultural inheritance and innovation of northeastern floral print cotton fabric came into existence in 2018, adhering to the educational concept of "acquiring specialty, emphasizing practice, adept in cooperating and innovating". On the basis of fully displaying the traditional connotation of northeast floral print cotton fabric, we explored and shaped it in-depth, and combined it with the characteristics of modern fabric, fiber, and wood carving. After over three years of progressing and developing, nearly 30 students and their four instructors have created more than 300 original works in five categories by using old fabrics, and the creations were exhibited in cultural inheritance and innovation activities in Jilin province for many times and were highly praised by members in the cultural and art industry in Jilin province.

The works manifesting Northeastern-style created by JLUAT workshop stood out from over 180 works from numerous universities in China and represented Jilin Province to participate in the Sixth Chinese College Students Art Works Exhibition. Tian Xuejun (Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education), Luo Qiang (Vice Governor of Sichuan Province), Wang Dengfeng, Wan Lijun (Director-General and Deputy Director of the Department of Physical, Health and Arts Education under the Ministry of Education), Sun Changzhi (Deputy Director-General of the Department of Education of Jilin Province), and Sun Dalong (Deputy Director-General of the Department of Physical, Health and Arts Education of Jilin Province) attended workshop. They appreciated students’ works while listening to instructor Liu Dan's explanation.

Yu Qian, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of JLUAT, wore a floral print cotton badge with northeastern folk features for Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of the ministry of education. On the exhibition stand, Vice Governor Luo Qiang and Director-General Wang Dengfeng took up floral gauze masks with great interest and spoke highly of the works of the workshop. There was an endless stream of people visiting the workshop, and there had been a surge of people in front of the booth. The works created by this workshop were widely praised by all visitors.

 

 

It is reported that more than 50 works were given the first prize in the 6th CCSAWE. The organizing committee eventually chose 43 workshops to participate in the on-site exhibition, and JLUAT workshop along with another college students' art practice workshop in Jilin province was among them. In the opening performance, the organizing committee selected two of the six projects in Jilin Province for screen display, and JLUAT workshop on cultural inheritance and innovation of northeastern floral print cotton fabric was one of them

In recent years, JLUAT has been promoting the work of aesthetic education solidly. Adhering to the value pursuit of "educating people in aesthetics, edifying people in culture, and cultivating people with virtue", we have taken the performance activities as an important carrier of the school's aesthetic education, and combined the art form with Chinese excellent traditional culture and Jilin folk culture. Furthermore, we have created a number of works with rich connotations and highlighted the characteristics of our education.

  

This activity fully shows the vigorous and promising youth of college students, demonstrates the achievements of students' art education, and plays an important role in activating campus cultural atmosphere and cultivating students' good aesthetic taste and humanistic quality.
